Laboratory Services

EMH Regional Healthcare System operates a full-service, accredited laboratory with several locations to serve you.  On-site testing is performed in the following diagnostic areas:

• microbiology and serology
• chemistry
• hematology
• coagulation and urinalysis
• immunohematology (blood bank)
• cytopathology
• surgical pathology

The EMH laboratory holds a CLIA Certificate of Accreditation from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services and is accredited by the College of American Pathologists (CAP).

Recently, a new laboratory information system was implemented that improves patient safety while allowing for faster analysis and results.  Hand-held computers with label printers are now used by phlebotomists on the Elyria, Amherst and Avon campuses to scan patient information from their bar-coded wristbands.  Labels are applied to specimens at the patient's bedside, which dramatically reduces the chance of patient idenfitication errors, and allows for analysis in the lab to begin much more quickly.
